Lucas do Rio Verde, Mato Grosso, Brazil – January 24, 2017 – FS Bioenergia announced today that international agribusiness executive Henrique H. Ubrig will serve as the chief executive officer of a world-class $115 million corn ethanol production facility in Lucas do Rio Verde, Mato Grosso. FS Bioenergia is the result of a collaboration between Brazilian agribusiness Fiagril and U.S.-based Summit Agricultural Group.
“We are extremely pleased to have such an accomplished and versatile leader in agriculture direct this historic effort in renewable fuels,” said Marino Franz, chairman of FS Bioenergia. “Henrique Ubrig brings a wealth of international experience and expertise to FS Bioenergia and our agricultural efforts throughout Mato Grosso and Brazil.”
Ubrig is founder of Heliagro Agricultura e Pecuaria Ltda. In addition, he garnered more than 20 years of international business experience with DuPont, having served as president of DuPont South America from 1996-2003 and president of DuPont South Asia from 2004-2005.
“This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference in agriculture and renewable energy here in Brazil,” Ubrig said. “FS Bioenergia has assembled an impressive team and I look forward to working with them to ensure the success of this important endeavor.”
Ubrig will direct a FS Bioenergia executive team that is comprised of Rafael Abud, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Fernando Calsoni, chief operating officer and Clayton Melo, commercial director.
FS Bioenergia’s corn ethanol operation is considered a landmark project in Brazil that will bring immediate value to the country. First, the plant will offset the country’s increasing demand for domestic ethanol, which can’t be met by the existing sugarcane ethanol production. Second, the facility will introduce to Mato Grosso valuable fiber and protein co-products, which will serve as high-value feed for the Brazilian livestock industry.
FS Bioenergia broke ground on the corn-only ethanol production facility in early 2016. The facility is expected to begin operations in mid-2017. When fully operational, the facility will employ over 100 people and produce over 60 million gallons of ethanol annually.
